Supporting community and technical college faculty in their efforts to enhance employability skills instruction, with support from the Necessary Skills Now Network (NSF DUE-1801096).

This self-paced course introduces planning and implementation strategies for integrating employability skills into discipline-specific course content.  Participants will explore frequently asked questions about employability skills:

  • What are they?
  • Which ones do employers value?
  • Why should I teach them?
  • Where can I fit them in my already-full syllabus?

Course take-aways include tools for analyzing your syllabus, creating real-world scenarios and lessons; strategies for talking to employers about employability soft skills; sample integrated lessons and rubrics, and many more helpful resources.

nsn-networks-logoThis course offers a guided, collaborative curriculum design experience.  Participants will explore models and methods for integrating career, technical and academic concepts in their courses.  Following a step-wise process with provided templates, participants will collaborate with local employers to create an integrated lesson that incorporates a real world scenario, contextual learning, employability skills development, and authentic assessment.  Colleagues will provide each other with weekly feedback and peer reviews through the course discussion board.  Come explore this model for maximizing student interest and learning, as well as the infusion of employability skills into your curriculum through integrated lesson design.

Special Note: Participants must be currently teaching at least one face-to-face class to complete the activities in this course. (Requirement lifted due to impacts of COVID-19.)
